About Me
Hi I'm Will, a student video game developer currently studying MSc Video Game Development at Birmingham City University.
I began an interest in making video games at the age of 10 when I began playing Roblox, a game which allowed me to make my own games using other people's scripts. By looking at other people's scripts, modifying them and linking them together, I began understanding the way programs were created.
Fast forward 3 years, I decided to choose Computer Science as an optional GCSE, where I first properly began programming. In the middle of A-Levels, I was torn between taking a degree in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering; but I made the decision quickly when I found a course dedicated to only programming for video games. It was on this course that I fully immersed myself in learning programming languages, using prior knowledge in Javascript and C# to create the best games I could, spawning multiple side projects along the way.
During this course I found myself only coding 2 dimensional games, never fully touching a 3D environment. For this reason, I chose to continue my studies in a master's degree where I am currently using Unreal Engine 4 in a team of 30 to create a 3D Powerstone 2 clone.
When I am not programming I enjoy Motorsport and sim-racing, pinball, and arcade machines. I watch every Formula 1 race and participating in online races on Assetto Corsa. Recently I have found myself more interested in arcade and pinball games (see portfolio) and enjoy replicating arcade classics on modern machinery. In future I hope to work in a studio to create a racing simulator that I would play when I get home but until then I am aiming to improve my skills by creating a range of different types of games, from first-person shooter to 2D side-scroller.
